First Netball Fixture

Today saw the anticipated start of netball on the tour. Both the first and second teams faced tough competition from the opposition, the Alberta selection. The seconds started bursting with energy, giving 100% from the start to final whistle. However, the fast and experienced play by the Alberta selection meant we were unfortunate to finish with a final score of 33-11, the team were gracious in defeat and look forward to learning from the game and putting these skills into practice in our next netball game next week, when we visit Vancouver!

The first team played next, they were also hyped and ready to show the Alberta Selection how netball is played Merchants style! The firsts also faced a difficult rapid style of play from the Alberta Club, although still putting in lots of effort to give Alberta some tough competition!  A special mention goes to the fantastic play by year 11's Ellie Buxton, who had a great game as our GK, marking tightly and giving the oppositions GS a run for her money! The first team came back from a tough first quarter to win the second. However, the Alberta selection's  extremely accurate shooting meant we finished the game with an unfortunate score of 33-11.

The final scores don't reflect the girls efforts and fun we had in our first netball matches on tour!
Following a sport packed morning, the Alberta Club provided us with some delicious, traditional Canadian style pancakes. Which went down a treat and have now become a favourite of all teachers and girls!

Today also marks the move of our tour to the mountainous area of Banff, a short drive from Calgary.
