Island to Mainland

.Having had a fantastic time on Vancouver Island, the girls said goodbye to their hosts and we set sail back to Vancouver. the scenery is beautiful and there were seals on the rocks but most of the girls used the time to rest or play cards.

After dropping our cases at the YWCA in downtown Vancouver we headed off for our next hockey matches vs Vancouver Hockey Club. Our 1stXI had a close game where we were unlucky not to score with shots just missing their target. The game ended in a 3-0 loss but could easily have been 3-3 if luck had been more on our side.

We decided to mix our teams for the second game with players from Vancouver playing alongside MTGS players. This proved to be great fun and very even with a 0-0 score line after full time and after extra time to! So, to decide the match we organised a series of 8 second 1 v 1s with outfield players taking on the opposing keepers starting off from the 25yd line. Every player had a go and the yellow bibs of the Taylors' team were 2-0 up with only a few 1v1s to go. Emily Clegg stepped forward for the blue bibs of the Merchant team and got round the Taylors' keeper to score! Lauren Thomas also went on to score shortly afterwards for Merchant to draw the teams level with only one penalty 1v1 to go from the Taylors' squad. Up stepped Tour Captain - Sophie Marsh and with neat footwork and a clinical finish, she slotted the ball into the net to win the game for Taylors'!! It was all good fun and we made more friends with the Vancouver Club players.

Well done to all of our players who played with a great sprit and a good sense of fun.

We all enjoyed a group meal at The Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown Vancouver this evening and now everyone except the bloggers are fast asleep!

More blogging to follow tomorrow!
