From Pitch to Pizza!

In searing temperatures the girls began their warm-up and could not believe just how hot it still was at 6pm! The match began at 7pm and the whole squad played so that we roll on and off and give players a break. It was a game of two halves and the first half saw us lose 4-0 despite an even game for much of the 30 minutes played. Our targets changed for the second half with a focus on it being a completely new game and this time the girls held on to a 0-0 draw. Miss Jones was so proud of their effort in such difficult conditions. When players came off they stood under a very welcome line of mist sprayers specially placed by the team dug outs as Kelowna summer temperatures are typically 38-39 degrees as it is classified as a desert climate. We finished the game with a presentation speech by Tour    Captain Sophie Marsh at 8.00pm.

Ellie Buxton debuted in this second match in goal and played brilliantly all game making some tremendous saves!

It was a great match and the Kelowna players ranged from university graduates who played provincial level hockey to senior girls at Kelowna School.

The girls were tired and we had anticipated their hunger by ordering take out pizzas for 30 which we picked up on our way back to our UBC accommodation. Only Lucy Whiston was prepared to be photographed and so the last photo finishes our pitch to pizza blog....thanks Lucy!!

Another fantastic day on tour!
